My Birthday Tribute: Poe

“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.”
~Edgar Allan Poe

Today is my birthday, and I am honored to share it with Edgar Allan Poe, born January 19th 1809. Poe was a brilliant writer, and I love his work. I admire the deep sentiment within his work, which draws you in. His style is not for everyone, it’s sometime long and daunting, but there is beauty laced within the lines that you must keep reading to find.

     Quotes by Poe:

I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

Please accept this link as a Happy Birthday card from one who has a treasured copy of Poe’s Tales illustrated by Harry Clarke, presented in the days when I was said to look like the man in this picture.

  3. You can’t spell Poet without Poe~ Y.E.S. You definitely can’t! 😀 Happy birthday, Abbie. Lovely post and great selection of Poe’s quotes. I’m a fan of him too since the very day I read Annabel Lee. 🙂

  4. Happy birthday! 🙂 Mr. Poe; I hadn’t had the chance to meet him. His legacy of his short-lived life is so certainly delineated among the many and varied writings he had penned along his path. To read Poe is to dare to dream the dreams he had. His dreams… as I feel with any poet, are the guiding voice to his words. And, to Poe as much as I could know to only read and wonder expressed that dreams are both of day and night; of life, where it is all of sensations… Darkness as much as daylight, things common and uncertain, that which we see and have yet to see, memories… and of course, mystery!

  6. Happy birthday!
Poe stole my heart at a young age. Well, still does I love so much of his work. Including the short stories. I’ll be sure to red some tonight in his memory and your honor.
How great that you share his birthday. I love the quotes you’ve added here. I may just share =)

  9. Many happy returns of the day, Abbie, as Brits say. Joyeux anniversaire. Feliz cumpleaños. I hope you will spend a lovely day with friends, family, and be pampered and receive loads of books. 🙂
Poe? The greatest. I’ve read and re-read him several times in both english and french (Baudelaire’s translation) and never cease to admire the style and the stories.
    HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYYYYYY! 🙂

  10. I absolutely love Edgar Allen Poe. He is my favorite poet of all time! His work is beautiful and mysterious and he himself was very mysterious as well. Happy Birthday! I am so jealous that you have the same birthday as Poe. Mine was on the 14th. So close!
