Today I have been reading Cinder while sipping a Flat White Latte
Here are my thoughts so far:
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles book 1) is a pleasant read so far, it is what you would expect from a YA book; easy, fast read. I haven’t been overwhelmed with delight by it, yet, but it’s also not a genre or style I’m usually drawn to. I decided to read it only because of all the hype, I didn’t like being out of the loop. I can see how fans of Twilight, and books of that nature, would be drawn to this series. So far it is interesting enough, although quite cliche and very predictable. I already feel like I know how the whole book is going to play out, and I prefer a little more mystery and intrigue to my reads. It is however a unique take on a classic fairytale, and I give the author kudos for that. Overall I think it is a well written story with a plot and style typical to YA literature. It is a worthwhile book to read if you like this style. If I feel overwhelmingly different when I complete the book, I will be sure to post an update.

Originating in Australia, it is made with 2 short shots, whole milk steamed fast, and no sweeteners.

I have read Cinder! Since I’m a young adult, I really enjoyed it… Especially the romantic sub-plot. The books following Cinder (Scarlet, Cress and Winter) are not as engaging and original as Cinder in my opinion, however. Keep reading Abbie… It’s an exciting ending I assure you 🙂

I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out. 🙂

Enjoyable nails. That’s really all I have to say. Oh and I was not a fan of twilight. I say ‘was’ because I am glad the fad is dead. Oh and I prefer a long black, I think also originated from Australia. Ok that’s all I have to say. Enjoy the rest of your book, too. Okay that’s it.

Thank you 😀 Did you read Cinder? If you haven’t, and you didn’t like Twilight, my guess is that it’s not your cup of tea either.

No I did not, but I see people on the subway with it, like you said, just not my cup of tea.

I wouldn’t compare Cinder to Twilight, having read both series. Where Twilight has been criticized for Bella”s lack of strength in character, Cinder and the rest of the Lunar Chronicles series is packed with strong female characters. It also has much more depth to the plot in that it’s clearly thought out and there aren’t any holes in the logic. It’s much more than a re-telling of a fairy tale; it’s a mixture of YA dystopian, fairy tale re-telling, sci-fi, and politics (maybe not so much in the first book). I hope you stick with it and come away with more than “it’s like Twilight”.

I was referring more to how it reads than to content. How it’s fast past and catchy. Also, that the people I know that liked Twilight will also like Cinder. I definitely agree that the story and character development is nothing like Twilight. I’m not disappointed, it is basically what I thought it would be. I’m enjoying the story, it’ll be interesting to see how it ends. 🙂

Yes, I agree. I didn’t like Bella, but Cinder and Scarlet are very strong, capable characters.
I suppose I can’t say that about Cress, she’s just cute and innocent.
Also, I think it was more well-written. Twilight didn’t capture my interest like the Lunar Chronicles did.

Have you read Winter yet? Cress definitely grows as a character in the final book.

Winter is actually the main reason I started the series. It was popping up everywhere constantly, and really well reviewed.

I have to admit, I’m not a twilight fan, but I am looking for a light read. Love the nails!

It’s not the same as Twilight, but it is fast passed and catchy like Twilight. It would make a good light read.

I love your nails, by the way! 🙂 I really enjoyed Cinder. Although the plot is somewhat predictable, I enjoyed the unique twist on it with Cinder being a cyborg, and I think Cinder is a strong character. I didn’t enjoy Scarlet as much, but I’m hoping to pick up Cress soon. I hope you enjoy the rest of the book!

Did not read cinder or twilight but did, surprisingly, thoroughly enjoy watching Twilight on Netflix. But the flat white coffee with full disclosure was up my alley.

No interest in the book really (my reading list is so long already), but I love Flat White’s, they’re my ‘treat’ coffee.

I can understand that, I squeezed it in because I felt out of the book loop and it’s such a fast read. It’s good enough, but I’ll stick to to the styles that speak more to me.

If you know a little about the concept of the book, read the back, look at it, and felt it, and didn’t feel it was for you, it probably is not. What kinds of books do you normally read?

I have been reading some YA, I recently read Pope Joan and Brain on Fire and loved both of those. I seem to be switching genres in recent years. I always used to love mysteries in the past, but got frustrated with the predictability, so I am trying to find things that are a good fit now.

Have you read “And Then There Were None.” If you are a mystery fan, you’ve probably already read it. If you haven’t, you should, it is very good.

I think you’ll like it! I hate predictability, and I usually predict things easily anyway, but this book was not. It’s by Agatha Christie here is a link http://amzn.to/1Q3rjmp If you read it let me know what you think, I don’t know anyone else whose read it.

RE Cinder this is on my TBR pile, I’m hoping to get to it this year, now that the series is finished. (I hate having to wait for books in a series to be released!)

I haven’t read Cinder, but Flat Whites are my new favorite drink. Most coffee is so sugared that you barely taste the coffee.

Reading a book with a good coffee is one of my favorite things in the world! I love that you include both.
And Flat Whites are amazing! I had to practice for quite awhile before I could make one perfectly (I used to work at Starbucks).
